I’m writing this as I stare at the sun rising over the White Mountains. The vacation house is absolutely gorgeous and the view from the gigantic window in the living room rivals any movie theater. Trees as far as the eye can see and not a neighbor in sight as we cherish our secluded 20 acres. The clouds are tickling the tops of the mountains, as if the fingertips of a huge, ghostly hand are behind it reaching over and trying to climb them.
However, I’m not witnessing all of this on a voluntary basis.
Due to space constraints, MJ and I are sharing a bedroom with Will. We’re sleeping in a small bed while he tries to uncomfortably sleep in his old pack n play. That means we put him to bed and then several hours later, we try to tiptoe around like burglars so we don’t wake him up. And Will sleeping in a strange place, in an uncomfortable device, next to a 4-year-old who inadvertently wakes him up = NO SLEEP!
So that’s why I’m up at 4:30 am after going to sleep at 1:30 am. Despite this beautiful house and the absolutely sick views, I’m already dreading tonight. A vacation is hardly a vacation if there’s no sleep involved. I hate to sound like I’m bitching about a free vacation, but so far this has been more exhausting than working during the week.
But make no mistake, the house is a dream. It’s only a year old and it has all the amenities (except for WiFi so I had to go to a general store down the road to post this). There are five bedrooms and the whole downstairs is a big playroom. Ping pong, pool, foosball and a plasma TV. Oh, and did I mention the in-ground heated pool??
The weather leaves a little to be desired but other than that we’re having a great time. Since my dad gave me a handheld GPS for Father’s Day, I might even get to go geocaching today. And if I’m lucky, we might also spot a bear as the people who were here before us left us a note saying there is one that frequents the house. You can bet I’ll grab some video if he makes an appearance.
I hope everyone has a good week and I’ll post as often as possible.
