About Me

Babble.com's Top 50 Dad Blogs of 2011!I'm a 32-year-old father and husband born and bred in Massachusetts. I have a beautiful son named Will, a gorgeous wife named MJ who is far too hot to have married me, a dog I love and two cats I put up with. I'm a smart-ass former newspaper reporter with a penchant for turning a phrase, who decided to go corporate and is now enjoying life as a content manager for a website.

This blog is not just another "daddy blog." Sure I write about my son, but these pages are a record of my life. I don't just highlight the fun milestones like first steps, I also chronicle the "other stuff." The fights, the torment and the doubt that inevitably come with being a husband and father. It's not always puppy dogs and rainbows, but it is very real. And often there is beauty in the sadness, redemption in the struggle.

Thank you for checking me out, giving me a try and sticking around for the journey. If you'd like to contact me you can email aaron_gouveia (at) yahoo (dot) com.

30 By 30: Week 2

Well here we are, my first full week of 30 by 30. I think I’ve done OK, but I could do better. Let’s go to the tale of the tape shall we?

STARTING WEIGHT: 237 lbs

CURRENT WEIGHT: 234 lbs

WEIGHT LOSS TO DATE: -3 lbs

CHEST: 43.5 inches

WAIST: 47 inches

HIPS: 48 inches

So I lost 3 lbs this week, which is OK. I was hoping for a little better. The good news is I went running four times this week and jogged a total of 7.5 miles. From Monday to yesterday I already cut more than a minute off my mile time so I’m excited about that. However, I didn’t make it to the gym once. I don’t know why but while I have no problem running until i can’t breathe anymore, I just hate the gym so much that I can’t work up the resolve to go right now. I’ll try to work on that this week.

Food-wise I’m doing well. I’ve cut down on my portions and a lot of unhealthy snacking. I didn’t have fast food once all week and I brown bagged it for lunch everyday. I slipped a little bit with my mother-in-law’s birthday and my friend’s birthday party for his 1-year-old, but I won’t have those temptations this week.

The food part is the worst thing about this. I tend to eat all the time throughout the day. So by the end of the night I’m STARVING but I know I shouldn’t eat before bed. In turn, it makes me a grumpy bastard. Especially since MJ has been tasked with being the slave driver and cracking the whip on me when I start to cave. I appreciate her help, but when she tosses me an apple instead of letting me eat a Devil Dog I want to strangle her!

In other news, Cape Cod Gal has offered to take me to a yoga class. She says it’s to help me in my quest to lose weight, but I think she just wants to see the hilarity that will be my fat ass trying to twist itself into ungodly positions. I’m not sure if I’ll take her up on it, but if I do it’ll definitely be a blog entry.

So, to keep me motivated and to sicken the rest of the Internet, here’s my weekly dose of shame in the form of wifebeater pictures.

The Yoga might help with sandwiches and other things too…

If you do end up going to a yoga class, can you record it? I’d like to watch it on a day that I’m grumpy or bored.

  • Vic is right! Yoga makes for great sandwiches!!! Stop being a big puss and come to class with me.

  • Go, Daddy, Go!! I’ll even drive down the Cape and do that yoga class with you guys. I promise not to laugh — well, until I get in my car anyway.
