A New Day

Today marks an occasion I’ve been personally looking forward to for months. Today marks the start of a new era. We embark on a brand new excursion, hoping to wipe the slate clean from our past failures. What was unheard of even a few years ago is now actually happening, as we face our new challenges head on and hope for the best.

Yup, today marks the beginning of my curling career.

Don’t know what curling is? Check out this quick video:

Basically its like shuffleboard on ice. And it is AWESOME! I went to an open house and I was hooked. Now me, my brother and my father are members of the Cape Cod Curling Club and we play in a league every Tuesday. Today is the first match and I’m pretty nervous.

You see, curling is hard to get used to and there’s a very steep learning curve at first. You have to balance yourself while gliding down the ice and guiding a 42 lb “stone” while strategically trying to outscore your opponent. And not only that, you have to do it without pissing off your teammates who are mostly headstrong old Cape Codders who can’t stand it when you screw up.

But hey, it’s something new and I get to share it with my family. Plus it’s my one night out of the house for the week. I decided Tuesdays are my night and Wednesdays belong to MJ so she can get out and do whatever it is she wants to. I think that’s fair.

Anyways, I’ve gotta go stretch. Curling is tough work.
