About Me

Babble.com's Top 50 Dad Blogs of 2011!I'm a 32-year-old father and husband born and bred in Massachusetts. I have a beautiful son named Will, a gorgeous wife named MJ who is far too hot to have married me, a dog I love and two cats I put up with. I'm a smart-ass former newspaper reporter with a penchant for turning a phrase, who decided to go corporate and is now enjoying life as a content manager for a website.

This blog is not just another "daddy blog." Sure I write about my son, but these pages are a record of my life. I don't just highlight the fun milestones like first steps, I also chronicle the "other stuff." The fights, the torment and the doubt that inevitably come with being a husband and father. It's not always puppy dogs and rainbows, but it is very real. And often there is beauty in the sadness, redemption in the struggle.

Thank you for checking me out, giving me a try and sticking around for the journey. If you'd like to contact me you can email aaron_gouveia (at) yahoo (dot) com.

My Little Brother Is Getting Married!

For my new readers (and the ones not paying enough attention), my little brother is named Nate. And he’s getting married this weekend in Delaware to a wonderful woman named Melissa.

I love my brother. He is awesome for several reasons, but if you’re a fan of this blog he’s awesome because he’s the one who suggested I branch out on my own. He secured the Daddy Files domain name and pays for it each year as a birthday present to me. He set the website up because I’m technologically inept. And even now, three years later, he continues to make sure we’re free of spam and he deals with all of the technical issues for me.

That’s why I’m asking all of you guys for your help.

MJ and I are not rich and we can’t get them a kickass present or surprise them by paying for their Hawaiian honeymoon. But what I can do is ask you guys to do me a favor and leave Nate & Melissa a slew of comments to send them off into wedded bliss.

I don’t want to tell you all the reasons why my brother rules right now, mainly because a shitload of my relatives read this and I need to save something for my best man speech Saturday night. But I can tell you a few things:

Nate is one of the most thoughtful people on the planet. He’s a people-pleaser and he’ll do whatever he can to make the people he loves happy. That goes double if that person is my mom, since he is a complete and total mama’s boy.

I didn’t realize it at the time, but Nate was my best friend growing up. We played sports, created games that only made sense to us and commiserated about our insane family together. Actually, things haven’t changed that much from the picture to the right.

Even though Nate moved to Baltimore about a year and a half ago, he’s somehow still managed to be the best uncle a kid ever had. Will absolutely loves him and vice versa. To Will, he’s Uncle TT. I’m not quite sure how that nickname stuck, but it did. They talk on the phone and occasionally Skype, and Nate is unbelievably good about coming back to Massachusetts as often as possible. Some of that has to do with sporting events and fantasy football/baseball drafts, but my point remains the same. Will is even going to be the ring bearer on Saturday and I can’t wait to see him all dressed up in a tux. It’s going to be frickin adorable.

It’s hard to believe my little brother is getting married. But he is and he rules and I’d love to be able to print this out for him and show him all the support he has on the website he helped create and maintain.

I’ll likely be tweeting from the wedding and posting pictures and video on Twitter. I’ll also post my best man speech after this weekend because I’ve worked for months on it. But for now, I want to say congratulations to Nate and Melissa and I can’t wait for the open bar festivities!

Thank you Aaron. I wouldn’t want anyone else standing up there with me. I come back as often as possible, but when I do, you ALWAYS bring Will out to Norton to see me. It’s not lost on me how much you do to help me stay close even when I’m far. I’ve always looked up to you and I’ll always be proud to have you as my big brother.

  • That photo of you and Nate as kids is so adorable! Will looks so much like you.

Congratulations to Nate and Melissa! I hope they have fun on their wedding day, and on every day after that! :)

  • When I see brothers like you guys as adults, it makes me hope that’s what my two boys will be like when they’re older. Then I think of one loving the other so much and attending the other’s wedding, and maybe I get something in my eye. I hope you have a wonderful time at the wedding! Nate & Melissa, congratulations! It’s so much fun to move into the next chapter of your lives, and I hope you enjoy absolutely ever minute of it.

Aaron, I’ve been following you since your brief stunt on babycenter and I love checking up on you and Will! I live in the northeast corner of Maryland within 5 miles of Delaware and PA, so you probably will be close this weekend! Wishing Nate and Melissa love and joy this weekend and forever after!

  • Dear Nate and Melissa,

Congratulations on the nuptials. Your brother is a good guy and the greatest future Laker fan I know. Enjoy the ride because it is just beginning.

  • Congrats to the both of you. Here’s the advice that I got from my brother in law. If you ever fighting and it’s late at night, don’t go to bed angry. Stay up and fight. It’s an awesome journey. Enjoy every moment of it.

Congratulations Nate & Melissa! A sense of humor is absolutely essential in any relationship but I’m sure Nate has one if he’s related to Aaron and Melissa must have one too if she’s willing to marry into your family :) Enjoy your special day.

We’d like a video of the best man’s speech, please.

  • Michelle

Durning your wedding day take 5 minutes pause look around with your wife and remember the moment, the day goes by so quickly it can be a blur.
Finally this is the most important advice I can give as a married man…get good insurance!
