Will had his 4-month pediatrician’s appointment today and — no surprise here — he’s huge!
He is 26-3/4″ long and weighs 17 lbs 15 oz. That’s good for the 95th percentile in height and the 90th percentile in weight. Thankfully — unlike his father, uncle and grandfather — his head is the 50th percentile which means he’s not cursed with the gargantual Gouveia cranium. I’m not even kidding…the men in my family, myself included, have heads that look like an orange on a toothpick. Bonus points for anyone (anyone not related to me or friends with me) who can tell me what movie that came from!
The bad news of course, was that Will had to have his second round of shots. That’s the main reason MJ likes that I come to the appointments, because she wants me to hold him down while they’re sticking him with their needles of death. Only this time she was trapped. She didn’t realize the doctor was about to administer the shots and she was giving Will a bottle while he was laying on the table. Then the doctor said “OK, hold his arms down please” and MJ looked like a deer caught in headlights. Before she could refuse or back away he was giving Will the shots. Will turned a deep shade of purple and had the “silent scream” thing going for about 15 seconds before he wailed like crazy. But make no mistake, it hurt MJ MUCH more than it did Will.
She may be a tough businesswoman on the outside, but inside my wife is a creampuff. And at no point is that more evident than when her child is hurting. She was doing all she could to fight back tears and I was doing all I could to keep from snickering. Will was fine a few minutes later and snoring away in his carseat, but the mental trauma may linger for poor mommy.
And for all of you MJ fans out there who are clamoring for her return to the blogosphere…I think you’ll get your wish. The rumor is she’s working up another post which will be ready for publication by the end of the week. The last one wasn’t so complimentary to me so I’m a little nervous, but also curious to see what she comes up with.
