This blog is not just another "daddy blog." Sure I write about my son, but these pages are a record of my life. I don't just highlight the fun milestones like first steps, I also chronicle the "other stuff." The fights, the torment and the doubt that inevitably come with being a husband and father. It's not always puppy dogs and rainbows, but it is very real. And often there is beauty in the sadness, redemption in the struggle. Just above the fish but below the dog. That’s where I rank. The hierarchy of the Daddy Files household currently goes Will (son), MJ (wife), Bruno (cat), Little One (cat), Haley (dog), Aaron (husband), Red Death (fish). And the word is I barely held onto the second-to-last spot. [...] Why do people get divorced? Sure there are the big reasons: emotional/physical abuse, falling out of love, sleeping with your wife’s sister. But I’m willing to wager that more often than not, it’s not the big things. Instead, I believe it’s a steady collection of little things that build up over the years and slowly [...] [...] I saw the movie Hall Pass on Saturday night with a couple of my married guy friends. I like the Farrelly brothers because their movies are slapstick funny, occasionally smart as a whip and—let’s face it—I’m a guy who loves scatological humor. So a movie about frustrated 40-ish married guys getting a permission slip for [...] [...] It may have been my brother who got married this weekend, but Nate and Melissa’s wedding had an unexpected benefit. Watching Nate before the wedding was really fun. I saw the excitement in his eyes and the eagerness to exchange those vows as soon as possible. When everyone else turns to look at the bride [...] [...] If you’re a married male celebrity these days, chances are you’re getting caught with your hand (among other body parts) in the proverbial cookie jar. Infidelity perpetrated by rich, famous guys has been all the rage for quite some time now. From Tiger Woods to Mark Sanford, whenever one of the “beautiful people” steps outside [...] [...] |
