About Me

Babble.com's Top 50 Dad Blogs of 2011!I'm a 32-year-old father and husband born and bred in Massachusetts. I have a beautiful son named Will, a gorgeous wife named MJ who is far too hot to have married me, a dog I love and two cats I put up with. I'm a smart-ass former newspaper reporter with a penchant for turning a phrase, who decided to go corporate and is now enjoying life as a content manager for a website.

This blog is not just another "daddy blog." Sure I write about my son, but these pages are a record of my life. I don't just highlight the fun milestones like first steps, I also chronicle the "other stuff." The fights, the torment and the doubt that inevitably come with being a husband and father. It's not always puppy dogs and rainbows, but it is very real. And often there is beauty in the sadness, redemption in the struggle.

Thank you for checking me out, giving me a try and sticking around for the journey. If you'd like to contact me you can email aaron_gouveia (at) yahoo (dot) com.

Thank a Veteran on Your Day Off

It’s a rare mutual day off today and I’m spending it with the family instead of devoting my time to the Internet. Forgive me blogosphere, but I think one day off is fair.

But I do want to urge everyone to keep our veterans in mind today. It’s important to not only remember the brave men and women we’ve lost in wars over the years, but also those who served and are now in other pursuits as well as those still serving this country.

Personally, I’d like to thank my good friends Sgt. Alicia Banks, Staff Sgt. Victor Banks and Sgt. Kelly Woerdeman who all served in Iraq in different capacities. Hero is a word that’s thrown around a lot these days, but it’s not wasted on these three. So thank you guys, and thanks to everyone who has served in any of the armed forces.

Even if you don’t agree with the war, you have to support the troops.

I support my troops even more because I don’t agree with the war. It’s incredible to know there are people willing to give their lives for just cause. The fact that they’re willing to give their lives for a shady, fabricated cause speaks volumes about the character of our troops. Civilians have the luxury of nitpicking, debating, agreeing and disagreeing. Our troops don’t have that luxury. They just Do. My hat definitely goes off to them.

  • Amen, brother. I have a couple of veterans in my family, and I’ll be the first to honor them.
