About Me

I'm a 33-year-old father and husband born and bred in Massachusetts. I have a beautiful son named Will, a gorgeous wife named MJ who is far too hot to have married me, a dog I love and two cats I put up with. I'm a smart-ass former newspaper reporter with a penchant for turning a phrase, who decided to go corporate and is now enjoying life as a content manager for a website.

This blog is not just another "daddy blog." Sure I write about my son, but these pages are a record of my life. I don't just highlight the fun milestones like first steps, I also chronicle the "other stuff." The fights, the torment and the doubt that inevitably come with being a husband and father. It's not always puppy dogs and rainbows, but it is very real. And often there is beauty in the sadness, redemption in the struggle.

Thank you for checking me out, giving me a try and sticking around for the journey. If you'd like to contact me you can email aaron_gouveia (at) yahoo (dot) com.

Will’s 1st B-Day Party

Before I post some pics of Will’s first birthday, I just want to say a few things.

We are so, so lucky to have the family and friends we have. To my parents who babysit, help us financially and in every other way to my best friend Craig and his wife Kelly who bought and cooked all the unbelievable food to Barbara and Patrick who volunteered their house (because ours is tiny) which allowed us to have the party in the first place…we’re floored by your kindness and generosity. If not for you guys, none of this happens. And as for the rest of our family members, thank you so much for the gifts. Even though we said “No Gifts” prior to the party, you guys were way too generous and Will is one spoiled and lucky kid.

Thank you all, from the bottom of our hearts. You guys are the best and we appreciate everything in a way that you’ll never know. Now, onto the pictures…

  • Nice pix! My son enjoyed sharing some of his cake with me too. I have to get some pix on his blog; I’m not so swift with the picture sharing as I should be. Very sharp 1-year portrait. I haven’t gotten portraits of Stan done yet but do still want to soon. We’ve been too darn busy. Cool cake — your Aunt’s quite the cake artist. Amazing how they’ve grown from little babies to cool little boys, ain’t it.

Nothing cuter than a baby tearing a cake apart, lol. I made my kids their own separate birthday cakes for their firsts. Just put it in front of them and let them go to town. I had to hose them off after, lol.

I have no idea what you promised Will to get him to take that perfect picture but mine are 5, 6 and 9 and I couldn’t get them to behave long enough to snap a decent studio portrait.

We almost got Todd the Handy Manny toolbox, but were worried about Turner and Pat. (Jeez, I know their names. For shame!)

I’m glad Will’s first birthday party was so great! Great pictures, too. :)

  • Great pics. Will is a man that knows how to handle his cake. I like that.

I freely admit I have many attention issues but I didn’t see the picture “on dad’s shoulders’ when I first looked at this. Either you added it after the fact or it got lost in the vortex of cake/portrait cuteness the first time I looked.

  • I flipping love first birthday parties. Happy #1, ickle guy.

  • Aww! Happy birthday, Will. He’s sooo cute, and so is that cake!

  • Happy Birthday! What are you doing eating cake? Aren’t you on some kinda diet???

Hi Aaron! I use to work with your Mom back at Ad-A-Day! I have to say that he is one of the cutest babies I have ever seen! I am not a mother yet but I agree with you, I think that having your child turn one sounds like a blast! There is a whole new world to explore with them! I hope you guys enjoy it!

  • Wow Aaron I can’t believe how big Will has gotten! He is absolutely adorable! How is Boston? We are heading that way in a few weeks to take our son Antony to the Boston Aquarium. Thank Goodness only a 1.5 hr ride :)
