About Me

I'm a 33-year-old father and husband born and bred in Massachusetts. I have a beautiful son named Will, a gorgeous wife named MJ who is far too hot to have married me, a dog I love and two cats I put up with. I'm a smart-ass former newspaper reporter with a penchant for turning a phrase, who decided to go corporate and is now enjoying life as a content manager for a website.

This blog is not just another "daddy blog." Sure I write about my son, but these pages are a record of my life. I don't just highlight the fun milestones like first steps, I also chronicle the "other stuff." The fights, the torment and the doubt that inevitably come with being a husband and father. It's not always puppy dogs and rainbows, but it is very real. And often there is beauty in the sadness, redemption in the struggle.

Thank you for checking me out, giving me a try and sticking around for the journey. If you'd like to contact me you can email aaron_gouveia (at) yahoo (dot) com.

First of all, some of you have asked me how the Weight Loss Death Match is going. And I have to say I’m finally seeing some results. In just more than a month I’ve lost 12 lbs, which means I’m down to 234. Not great, but I’ll take it. I have just more than two months to go until the weigh in, so that’s pretty good progress so far. I go to the gym about 4 times a week and I’m able to run three miles on the Cape Cod Canal. And sure those three miles take me about 32 minutes total, but that’s much better than when I first started. And it’s always nice when someone notices you’ve dropped a few lbs. Of course in my case the compliment was a little backhanded. My co-worker Melissa mentioned something shortly after I got my haircut. She said:

“Hey, you look good. Haircut? Or wait…actually, I think it’s more than that. Your whole head looks smaller.”

Stop, really…I’ll blush.

In other news, allow me to toot my own horn and shamelessly plug my debut as a public speaker. On Thursday, June 5 at 6 p.m., I’ll be speaking to a new father’s group at Cape Cod Hospital. Apparently it’s just a group of dads who bring their kids for pizza and soda, and to talk about fatherhood. I have absolutely no idea what I’m going to talk about, as most of these fathers are probably more experienced at this whole parenthood thing than I am, but I’m hoping to tell a few funny stories, meet some cool people and just have a good time with Will. If any of you dads want to come, or if any of you moms want to kick dad and baby out of the house for a couple of hours, stop by the Lorusso Boardroom at Cape Cod Hospital from 6 to 8 pm on Thursday.
